Modem Activity - Sleep vs Shut Down

When my PC sleeps the light on my modem that signifies being online stops blinking and goes dark, but it continues to blink when I shut down. This seems curious. Anyone understand why this is the case?

Thanks.

Hello. All modems react different, might just be the way yours functions. For example , my modem has the Power light.. Data . send and recieve , Cable, Pc. My power and cable are always lit.. while the others blink as there function dictates.. The ones i really get concerned about are the Cable and Power.. if they go out.. I am off line for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I spoke to an online tech representative who had no clue why there's a difference although she did say that the modem remains online when the computer is shut down so that it can receive updates if necessary.
