Solved Wireless network OK, but no internet on Vista laptop

I have a Toshiba laptop that was connecting to a neighbor's wireless just fine until yesterday!! Now all I am getting is Local access.

I went and got Time Warner cable internet today. When I plug the ethernet cable directly into my laptop, it works fine. When I try to go onto my wireless router, it says local only.

I have wasted several hours trying to figure this out, plus the expense of getting my own internet, which I am better off having, I can secure my router.

I used this router prior to this with another internet service but I think the router name and security password, etc should stay the same.

I have made changes to my computer, but it doesn't seem to make any difference what I do. Still no wireless!!

Can someone help me before I lose my patience entirely???

Hello, have you used the router install disk to set up your computer ? When I set my router up , I used an install cd to set it up , do you have one of those to set up the router ?

No, I do not have it.

It will involve some drivers and such , what is the make and model of your router ?

It is a Cisco Linksys E1000

Thank You! I downloaded the software and it is now connecting to the internet too. Strange because it worked with the neighbors wireless until last night??? Oh, well, I have it now and I am very grateful!!

Once you can get into the router interface you can set up the security settings.. i can type 192.168.2.1. in my address bar to get into my router. Yours for Cisco will be similar. I have my set on WPA/2 . which will not let anyone use my router unless they have the password . Good luck and thanks for using this forum.
