Vista IP Problem

On Friday I saw the most thing, laptop wireless setup to see the router, the Router was set up with the 10.11.0.1 as its lan number. At first all was well but because the laptop had hot been updated I had to load the security etc updates.

As soon as the updates were completed and the machine was rebooted the wireless device changed to 169.254.107.86 with mask as 255.255.0.0 and I could not change it!

Both ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew will not work!

There are three machines that used the same router a desktop with IP 10.11.0.2 (255.255.2550) and a laptop 10.11.0.5 (255.255.255.0) there work correctly (Desktop OS is Windows 7 and the Laptop XP Pro)

Any ideas?

Hi,

First try this: -

Set a static IP address in the router.

Disable the PC wireless & then re-enable it.

This should refresh the IP address. Undo the "Fixed IP in the router" & all should remain good.

Is your system set to obtain an ipaddress automatically? Rarely should you ever need to set the ipaddress from the system itself but instead do it from your router using either a static ipaddress or a dynamic ipaddress.
