What is this?

Hi, I have just installed " SoftPerfect Wifi-Guard ". It shows the two wireless comps that are running plus the Gateway 192.168.1.254 which is my Modem/router, but it also shows 192.168.1.253. I can see that it is relating to the Modem but as I have never seen it before could someone tell me exactly what it is.
cheers,
Eddie

Everyone's addressing scheme is different so I cannot say for definite what that is however to see if it is active in your network can you please type the following in a command prompt:

Code:
ping 192.168.1.253

Please post back your results

Many thanks,
Josh! :)

This will most likely be your modem however I can't be for sure since I did not setup the network. Please understand that a modem and a router are two completely different devices therefore each need there own IP address.

I am positive that it isn't a computer or device since your DHCP scope to hand out IP addresses shouldn't go that high however it may be possible for someone to set a static address.

Try to disable wireless capabilities on your router and then plug your machine in using a wired connection. Is there still that address?

Many thanks,
Josh! :)
