How 5G network works in a router after disable 2.4G in a router none of my LAN laptop has internet connection, I did a research in a google that if you network support 802.11b 802.11g 802.11n in netsh wlan show driver that means your laptop network interface card support the 5G network, but after disable the 2.4G in a ISP router all my laptop can't connect to the internet.

Can someone tell me how to set my network interface to 5G network only please.

Regard,
Thanks.

3g/4g/5g are cellular based signals like for a cell phone. You must either have a compatible dongle, a hotspot device, or if possible set up your cellphone as a hotspot. I don't know of any laptops that have support built in.

Yes/No... While they say 5G they really mean 5Ghz wifi. And as you said you need a 5Ghz network card to access it.

And yes Stuck, you can use all those protocols but at 5.0Ghz connection, like how cordless phones also come in 2.4Ghz model and 5.0Ghz but still answer calls the same.

Hi townsbg,

I am not sure is there any 5G network connection for cellular based signals cellphone so far yet, but as Patonb stated 5G they really mean 5Ghz for wifi.

Regard,
Thanks.

Hi Patonb,

Yeah man, according to google search if you want to know if your wireless network card support 5G network you just type in cmd:

Netsh wlan show driver

if there has the 802.11n Radio types supported that means it support the 5G network of a ISP router in which it was preconfigured by the ISP, however when I disable the 2.4G network in my ISP router it stopped all my laptops internet connection but only my smartphone can still connect to the internet as I changed the network type from Auto to 5G only.

Is there anyway to change my laptops network to 5G network support?

Regard,
Thanks.

Re: How 5G network works in a router after disable 2.4G in a router none of my LAN la

Yes, but depends on the laptop. You just need to get a 2.4/5Ghz card like this:
Computer Hardware, Networking, Wireless Networking, Wireless Adapters, Mini PCI Express - Newegg.ca

Hi Pantob,

I don't get it, since I tested with netsh wlan show driver command in cmd that described that my wireless interface card can support 5G network connection, why do I need to buy another?

Somehow the internet connection lost when I disable the 2.4G in the router and leave the 5G enable in the router I can still connect to the internet only with smartphone that has the 5G support but none of my laptops works anymore.

Regard,
Thanks.

Bothb 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghzhave the same protocols, but look on different frequencies for it.

Using netsh wlan show driver only shows protocols and not bandwidth it runs on.

As you have said, you're phones have 5.0Ghz cards, the laptops don't. Just post up a laptop model number and i'll triple check your specs.

Yes, all those types are sent on both 2.4ghz and the 5.0ghz bandwidth. What you do not have is 802.11ac

Hi Pantob,

I guess you do not need 802.11ac interface card to support the 5G network connection, let say if I have a 802.11ac wireless interface card how do configure the Wireless card to support 5G connection only not 2.4G

Thanks.

Re: How 5G network works in a router after disable 2.4G in a router none of my LAN la

It will automatically see it in your network list.

For my setup, I have 2 network ssids off my 1 router. My laptop picks up and shows both the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz networks in my wifi panel, and I just choose the one I want to use.

I google up your driver and got this:
www.qca.qualcomm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/AR9485.pdf
Which says it is only has a 2.4Ghz radio, so without the 5.0Ghz radio, you can not pickup yhe 5.0Ghz from your router.
