| Member | can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Here's a wierd one: I can not access internet options in IE7 64 bit. I hit tool and then internet options and i get a pop up stating "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. PLease contact your system administrator". Okay, i have admin rights and i disabled UAC. The funny thing is in IE 32 bit i can access it no problem. I am running avg free but i uninstalled it and still no access. I also disable the firewall to test. Any ideas? Google gives me registry things to check but there is no "nobrowseroptions" or "nointernetoptions" in the reg. Virus scan show nothing. Thanks in advance if anyone can point me in the right direction. |

| Enthusiast | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 As a start you could do this: -In your Start Menu search screen, type cmd. -Above that, you'll see the cmd link; right click on that and run it as an administrator (with UAC disabled, I guess that might not matter). -Type sfc /scannow That might fix any problems. I'll keep looking around and see if I find anything else. Frank |

| Enthusiast | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Okay, here's another idea for you. On that bar where Tools is located, right click. Go to customize command bar. Remove Tools. Close IE7. Then restart the program (maybe the computer as well?). Add the Tools function to the command bar again. Give that a go. Barring that, you may want to uninstall that one and reinstall it. Unfortunately, I can't find IE7 for Vista x64 on microsoft.com (probably because it's bundled with the OS). There's a chance that this would open up to you as an option if you uninstalled it, but I can't even really figure out how to do that. In any case, hope that works for you. If not, post again with as many details as you can. Can't hurt. |

| Enthusiast | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Whoops. Just remembered. IE7 is integral to Vista and can't be uninstalled. Guess you'll just have to live with that little nightmare. I'll let you know if I come up with anything else. |

| Member | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Thanks for giving it a shot FS. I tried both and nothing. The scan did give me a 99% completion stating there were some errors that could not be fixed. That might lean me torwards a reinstall but I will try and avoid that for awhile as i just got this os stable as heck. thanks again and if anyone else has an idea or two let me know . |

| Enthusiast | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Alright, let's try to do things a little differently. It's a long shot, but those sometimes work. Re-enable UAC. One never can tell; there might be something valuable in that here. Make sure that when you run sfc /scannow you are running cmd as an administrator (this is a MUST when UAC is enabled). If you built your system or upgraded it yourself, have your install disk in the DVD player (there's a chance it needs access to a file). If you could let us know what errors there are (if it outputs any), that'd be fantastic. Also, check your CPU manufacturer's website and make sure you've got everything they say you need to run x64 systems. I have no idea why this would be the problem for that issue, but one never can tell. |

| Enthusiast | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Oh, and if that's not working, you could always try rolling back a ways with a restore point. |

| Member | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Thanks again FS. Enabling UAC didn't work. Restoring to earliest point didn't either. I think at this point a reinstall is all that will fix it. Thanks again. |

| Enthusiast | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Before you try anything desperate, try PMing Brink. I suspect he would have popped in here if he could help, but one never can tell. If you do find something that works to fix, instead of a full re-install, make sure you post it so we can all benefit. |

| Veteran | Re: can't access internet options in IE7 x64 Before you re-install, try this: go into default programs in the control panel, click set program access and computer defaults, select custom radio button. Then try IE7-64. |
