just the cpu...runs all my games sweet my friend:)
I put the cpu voltage control up to 1.45000v
memory voltage control up +0.30v
system memory multiplier on 2.00A

I`ve just gave 3DMark05 a run and got-:

I`ve decided to put my clock back to 3.4, had no issues at running at 3.6....just felt safer really(sounds stupid I know)
Anyways I ran 3dmark06 at 3.4

watch those temps mate, they may start to climb pretty quick, your right on the line of MAX safe voltage & far past where i would like to take a 45nm chip.....

nice OC though ..... ;)


now im sure you can tweak your RAM, those 8500s will run quicker than 840mhz!!
i would try to tighten the timings first, ideally 4-4-4-12 would be nice, but if you cant hold that stable even with a little voltage boost you could up the frequency, not sure what dividers you have but they should sit @ 1000mhz all day long.....

if you cant do either, try changing the ''command rate'' timing to 1T, this will also boost performance but not all RAM will hold this setting...

Ultimately ...4-4-4-12 @ 1000mhz 2T would be the best case scenario, but its not likely...

have a play & see what she'll do...

Nice:) That's what I'm aiming for on my q9550 when I get my new case with better airflow.

What tjmax setting are you using in realtemp? They're some nice idle temps compared to mine. What temps are you getting at load?

Tjmax are set to 95c
onload no more than 50c

I lowered the cpu Voltage to 1.35 and still posted at 3.6 as you can see in the above pic:party:

My new case arrived today and I've just finished re-building. I even re-orintated my noctua to exhaust out the top and my Q9550 idle temps are still at least 5-10c hotter than yours. I haven't even checked the load temps yet.... and I'm only currently OC'ed to 3.2 :( At least the idle temps are 3-4c lower now :rolleyes:

Are you by any chance in a cold climate? Have you had any stability issues at that clock speed / voltage?

the more i see of this quad the more it makes me want one!!, but currently all i would gain is a few thousand extra 3dmark points....

when they start coding more games to utilize 4 cores the need will grow, hopefully the prices will have dropped a little by then...

What's not so cool is that I only discovered the other day that the TJmax for Q9000 series should be set to 100 and not 95. I posted this link in another thread. Have a look at and decide for yourself :(

I've adjusted Real Temp to 100 as per the Intel specs and was bummed to find I'm running hotter than I thought. Even if it's not correct, it's better to be safe than fried ;)

the Q9550 is a great chip man. and the E0 stepping is even better.

First off let me start by saying yes, the Tj MAx value should be at 100. also the MAX safe voltage specified by intel on that chip is 1.3625v I currently have the Q9650 and I run her at 4.0 GHz with 1.304v you should be able to hit close to that with 1.35.. also instead of cranking up the voltage on the CPU. I'd change the fsb/VTT voltage to 1.35 and leave it there.. don't go much higher than that.. on Quads, the fsb/vtt voltage plays a really big part.

Also hitting 3.8 Ghz with idle temps around 28-33 is a great temp and you should be happy with that.. Mine at 3.8 Ghz and 4.0 ghz were the same idle temps. so you should have no problem hitting 4.0 ghz on that baby. they are just amazing chips. SOOO easy to overclock. I worked my ASS off to get my Q6700 to be stable at 3.6 ghz. and 3.7 Ghz was the max I ever got it.. but these new chips are great. my max oc so far was 4.205 Ghz and I just got a new PSU and some Corsair 2x2GB Dom's :):):):)

so soon my goal will be 4.3 Ghz or 4.4 Ghz if I can.
