Dell 530 OC help

I have a stock dell 530 with q6600 CPU and a 0FM586 MoBo, should I OC and will it be safe with stock cooling? I went into the bios (phoenix 1.0.16) and there is no MIT setting.

Hi venom762 ...welcome to the x64 forums

you cant OC a dell my friend, the BIOS is locked down to prevent tampering.....
the ONLY way possible to OC it would be through windows via a few dedicated apps..... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS!!

the problem you'll have is even though we may find you an app capable of upping your FSB, the board itself has no voltage control, so it will become unstable very quickly...

TBH if you wanna OC, grab a new 775 mobo, remove your Q6600 & replace with a cheapo C2D & build a dedicated OCing rig....

Inspiron 530 is a failure . . . Dont even try to mess up with this computer. It will give you nothing but problems. Its outtta my experience as i work for Dell. Let the computer run as it is! Mark my words...

Re: Dell 530 OC help

Hi venom. The dell 530 with the q6600 is a great overclocker, sorry you guys are unfamiliar with it.
There's a totally easy tape method similar to the old amd 'tape over the pin' method.
Here's a good tutorial with pics. enjoy

if your talking about a BSEL MOD, its a lot of fiddling around for a pretty small FSB jump....IMO

though i'd certainly prefer ppl used this method than using OC S/W to change BIOS settings, this method ALWAYS ends in disaster....
