| vista home premium 32bit | Vista Computer slowdown I bought this hp compaq presario laptop in 2006 with vista home premium 32bit already installed. Vista was already disappointingly slow then (compared to my expectations) but decent. This time though it has become so much slower. I'm not an expert so I've relied on forums for technical advise: check for spyware/adware and viruses-none (ad-aware & avg); follow the steps here on vista tutorials-done; i run advanced system care free daily; use smart defrag weekly; updated softwares (update notifier) that i often use as well as hardware drivers (drivermax); but it is still annoyingly slow. Could someone help me, please? Below are the specs that i got as i write this message. I don't really understand a lot of them but i hope it can help someone help me: Quote: AWC System Information Report Operating System OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium OS Version 6.0.6001 ServicePack 1.0 System Uptime 2/16/2009 11:18:33 AM Internet Explorer Version 8.0.6001.18372 Microsoft DirectX Version 10.0 OpenGL Version 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205) Free Physical Memory 196 MB Free Page File 727 MB Free Virtual Memory 976 MB Registry Maximum Size 682MB Current Size 30MB Status OK Center Processor CPU Name Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz Code Name Model 15, Stepping 6 Manufacturer GenuineIntel Current Clock Speed 1667Mhz Max Clock Speed 1667Mhz Voltage 3.3V External Clock 667Mhz CPU ID x64 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6 Socket Designation U1 L1 Cache 16KB L2 Cache 2048KB Motherboard Model 30B2 Manufacturer Wistron BIOS Name Ver 1.00PARTTBLh BIOS Vendor Hewlett-Packard SMBIOS Version F.23 BIOS Date 1/8/2007 BIOS Features ISA is supported Yes PCI is supported Yes PC Card (PCMCIA) is supported Yes Plug and Play is supported Yes APM is supported Yes BIOS is Upgradable (Flash) Yes BIOS shadowing is allowed Yes ESCD support is available Yes Boot from CD is supported Yes ACPI supported Yes USB Legacy is supported Yes AGP is supported Yes Memory Resource Total Memory 1013 MB Used Memory 822 MB Free Memory 190 MB Memory Usage 81% Physical Memory Memory Bank Bank 0 Description Physical Memory 0 Device Location M1 Capacity 512 MB Speed 667Mhz Manufacturer NULL Data Width 32bit Memory Type Form Factor SODIMM Physical Memory Memory Bank Bank 1 Description Physical Memory 1 Device Location M2 Capacity 512 MB Speed 667Mhz Manufacturer NULL Data Width 32bit Memory Type Form Factor SODIMM Disk drive Name WDC WD1200BEVS-60RST0 Media Type Fixed hard disk media Capacity 120GB Interface Type IDE Partitions 2 Total Cylinders 14593 Total Heads 255 Total Sectors 234436545 Total Tracks 3721215 Tracks Per Cylinder 255 Sectors Per Track 512 Bytes Per Sector 63 S.M.A.R.T Support Yes Current Temperature 0C (32F) CD-ROM Drive Name MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-851S ATA Device Drive E: Transfer Rate -1 Status OK IDE Controller Name Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller Manufacturer Ricoh Company Status OK IDE Controller Name Ricoh Memory Stick Controller Manufacturer Ricoh Company Status OK IDE Controller Name Ricoh xD-Picture Card Controller Manufacturer Ricoh Company Status OK IDE Controller Name Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF Manufacturer Intel Status OK IDE Controller Name IDE Channel Manufacturer (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) Status OK IDE Controller Name ATA Channel 1 Manufacturer (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) Status OK IDE Controller Name Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller Manufacturer Intel Status OK Video Adapter Name Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family Video Processor Intel(R) GMA 950 Manufacturer Intel Corporation Video Architecture VGA DAC Type Internal Memory Size 256MB Memory Type Unknown Video Mode 1280 x 800 x 4294967296 colors Current Refresh Rate 59Hz Driver Version 7.15.10.1537 Driver Date 7/29/2008 9:07:28 AM Monitor Name Generic PnP Monitor Screen Height 800 Screen Width 1280 Status OK Local Area Connection Product Name Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Driver File E100B Manufacturer Intel Wireless Network Connection Product Name Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection Driver File NETw5v32 Manufacturer Intel Corporation Sound Device Name Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2 Manufacturer Conexant Status OK Keyboard Name HID Keyboard Device Description Enhanced (101- or 102-key) Function Keys 12 Status OK USBController Product Name Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8 Manufacturer Intel Protocol Supported Universal Serial Bus Status OK USBController Product Name Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9 Manufacturer Intel Protocol Supported Universal Serial Bus Status OK USBController Product Name Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CA Manufacturer Intel Protocol Supported Universal Serial Bus Status OK USBController Product Name Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB Manufacturer Intel Protocol Supported Universal Serial Bus Status OK USBController Product Name Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC Manufacturer Intel Protocol Supported Universal Serial Bus Status OK |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Vista Computer slowdown "inkheart" your computers too slow. Sorry to say but if you want fast Vista performance you need to upgrade. Looking at your specs you could do with at least another 1 GB of ram and a faster processor. 1.66 + 40%= 2.324Ghz which isnt good enough for Vista. I dont know a lot about laptops as i only use desktop pc's but you can see my pc's specs and it runs vista fast, so if you can get a pc with similar or better specs then you should. "ViPirate" you should overclock if you can as that processers a bit weak also limit the programmes on startup (i have only two at startup) and limit the amount of services that start automatically (i have 40). Disable sidebar, welcome centre, set paging file initial and max size to 3072 etc etc etc etc. |
