| Vista Home Premium 32bit/ Windows 7 RC 7100 | Should I or Shouldn't I? (Overclocking) Hello to all...new to this site! For a while I have been considering overclocking my HP a6009n Desktop. Have heard this would improve the performance and speed, but it's somewhat risky... I have DSL and the speed is OK;not sure if this has anything to do with it. I have an AMD Athlon 64x2 DualCore Processor 3800+ 2.00 GHz. I've become a tweakfreak; always trying different things to get my PC running as fast as possible, but I want to proceed with caution in this case so I don't fry my CPU... I would love to hear from other HP owners who have OC'ed and their results. Thanks in advance and thanks for having me.....DavyVisSP2 |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit and Ubuntu 9.10 32bit | Re: Should I or Shouldn't I? (Overclocking) hm..... if your computer is like most pre built's........ you can't overclock because it's locked in your bio's although your cpu would be a good one to overclock..... but i'm pretty sure you can't do it |

| Windows 7 x64 | Re: Should I or Shouldn't I? (Overclocking) Welcome to the forums ![]() And pizzaman's right. Pre-built systems usually lock out any overclocking features on the motherboard. You could try some software to overclock it, but again you won't be able to do much as the voltages will be locked still. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit/ Windows 7 RC 7100 | Re: Should I or Shouldn't I? (Overclocking) Well I've read in various forums and chats that many major manufacturers(including HP) make it so you can't OC their products. I'm sure if I investigate further I could probably find a way, but as my PC is running fine, I'm not going to push it.....I just love to tweak, tweak, tweak!!!! But I found that you have to keep it under control or risk messing up your PC and having to start over with a clean reinstall of your OS, or OSes in my case cause I have Vista and 7RC on my drive...Many Thanks to you for your assistance and will give props to you guys!! |

| Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2 | Re: Should I or Shouldn't I? (Overclocking) ok. I know this has nothing to do with this stupid subject, but just for the record , DavyVistSP2, you stole my name. that's my name in real life I just like david better. It sounds more grown up since I am a grownup. So just for this forum, would you please, please, change your name, and with all do respect, and I did say with all do respect, change it to Davida or Davella, or some other name that is not my name, cause I van get really mad really quick when someone or somebody uses my name and thinks they can get away with it. Now, like I said, with all do respect, would you please consider changing your nick name (only on this forum). Cause that makes me real mad when people abuse or try to make fun of my name. So, with all do respect, whatever you are, whether you be a guy or a girl a shim or a he-she, or whatever, just do us both a favor a change your fake name! (P.S.) please don't take this seriously, I was only fooling around with you. You can keep that name all you want and I really don't /wouldn't care. I just like to fool around with people. I'm that kind of jokester! So, please don't send a hate message back to me, cause I don't hate you, I think you have a awesome name! I'm sorry if I offended you. It was all a joke. See I'm laughing at the joke...LOL........LOL.........LOL........(stands for laughing out loud)......Man ! i'm hilarious! well, catch ya latr! ~david1~ |

| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 : Seven Ultimate x64 | Re: Should I or Shouldn't I? (Overclocking) lol, settle down there champ ![]() Since BIOS based overclocking is unavailable to you, software based is the only other viable option. Unfortunately software based overclocking is NOT generally recommended as it is inherently a lot more unstable. Add the fact that you've most likely only have a stock CPU cooler, which is not suited for any overclocking. If you're serious about overclocking, you're going to have spend a little money. You'd need a new mobo with an unlocked BIOS and a CPU cooler. At the very least, you need the cooler. Without a cooler, you'll end up cooking the chip. |
