Is overcloking a Laptop a good choice?

Hey there!

Im all new to Overclocking (though I've been a heavy PC and Mac user for a lot) and I just bought this pretty sweet HP Pavilion dv4 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.10, 4gb RAM). So im doing my usual tweak routine (im new to windows vista so its been quite a ride).

Anyway... I was JUST wondering: Is overclocking a Laptop a good choice? Or are you just ment for doom What chances do I have to make (even slight) improves on my performance (without risking my new laptop of course :3)

Thx in advance.

In addition to Pacinitaly, I think, you can swap the stock CPU for the faster one, the same with the hard drive. Usually, there is very hard or even it is impossible to overclock the hardware on the notebooks, unless you have the Alienware or Seager.
So the best way to speed up the notebook is to tweak the operating system.

You may want to study the temperature implications. A laptop does not have a lot of slack for additional cooling.

Re: Is overcloking a Laptop a good choice?

I tried to OC my dv7 and you cant anyway. HP locks out the BIOS on those settings to change voltage etc. I even tried the AMD Overdrive and it didnt work either. Your better off not even trying...alot can break if you push it too far. I gave up on it...laptops are what they are unless you upgrade the hardware.
