When I first built this CPU temps under load would be lucky to reach 38C. I know the limit on this CPU is 62C. However over the past week I have watched CPU temp steadily increase. It now idles at 42-44C and under load gets up to 50C.

I have pulled the tower apart, cleaned all of the filters, and used compressed air over the CPU and fan. However at idle it is still reaching temps of 41C. I know this is not particularly high.

But I am curious as to know why all of a sudden the temps have risen.

When you play games continuously or do some kind of encoding stuff, the processor is engaged, normally processor uses only 50% of its capacity, but if you do high end stuff or play high graphics games, a lot of processor power is used and heat builds up in the processor and near by motherboard. But to counter this processors come with fan mounted on heat conducting metal object to dissipate the heat.

Likely causes are since it is a new computer :

1. The CPU fan is not working efficiently, usually it should spin at 3000 rpm at full loads, but in your case it might have been spinning not more than 1200 rpm.

2. The heat sink material was not properly installed during the processor installation.

3. BIOS settings might be limiting the CPU fan to work at full potential due to acoustic settings.

As a result of which the CPU overheats and temperatures goes up to 85 to 90 degrees Celsius. So as a safety precaution the motherboard is programmed to shutdown the power after the temperature crosses the safety limit of working environment because that much heat can damage parts of motherboard.

Recommendations:

1. 70 % of the cases in which motherboard automatically shuts down the power, there will be probably some damaged caused to the motherboard. So check first if your motherboard is fine and doing good.
2. Upgrade your CPU fan with now a days available highly efficient liquid cooling of air cooling solutions for the CPU. In which case your CPU temperature wont rise above 60 - 65 degrees Celsius at full load for even 24 hours and the idle temperature would be around 38 - 45 degrees.

Hows the room Temperature? Has it increased?

Do you know the TIM paste brand? and How old is the system?

How did you apply the paste?

Has your Vcore gone up?

Hows your gpu temp?

Hows the room Temperature? Has it increased? No!!

Do you know the TIM paste brand? MX-2 Came with the CPU Cooler..................... and How old is the system? Less than four months old

How did you apply the paste? Pre applied on the CPU Cooler

Has your Vcore gone up? Cannot answer that I have never monitored it before, it is however ranging from .992 to 1.392v, the system is not overclocked.

Hows your gpu temp? Has gone up by 2 degrees

The thing that is bothering me is why this has happened in the last week, the CPU temps when idle were 32C under load never got above 38C. So for me to see them hanging close and up to 50C is worriesome.

And no I do not do high end gaming, unless you call Warcraft 3 high end which trust me isn't.

The reason I opted for the CM Storm Sniper was is it's cooling capabilities, and I thought with the AC-ALPINE-64PRO ARTIC COOLING CPU COOLER, it would keep my CPU temps down, which it has up until this past week

The most common reason is fan failure or just plain dirt. Have you ever tried to clean out your computer, especailly if a desktop?

What program are you using?
What does the BIOS say idle temp is?
I doubt you know, but is your cpu fan slower now?
Have you moved you case or other furniture around?

Honestly, 38C load is low for the system... 50C Load is more of what i'd expect.

Absolutely ^^^^^ a water cooled rig would struggle to acheive 38 degrees under load your temps seem fine as they are now ive no idea how they were so low before

I live in Tasmania Australia now, and it is 1 of the coldest states in Australia that's probably why. The ambient room temp never gets above 20C usually its a lot lower. Between 15-17C

Man, I live in Canada, its about the same and still its abit cool for a rig.

Unsure of why you'd see a bit of increase, but youre well in the safe zone.

Pass on Canada brrrrrrrr I am from Western Australia, one of the hotter states of Australia, although I now live in Tasmania, one of the COLDEST states of Australia.

I know I am still well within the "safe zone". So I will be first going out to buy some more thermal goop, MX-2 or MX-3, not sure which one yet, the CPU cooler came with MX-2 pre-applied.

And if I don't see a drop in temps, I am looking at getting either a Coolermaster V6GT or a Corsair H70 once they are back in stock.

I am leaning towards the Corsair as it will not put any weight on my motherboard, but alas I will have to remove the back fan of my CM Storm Sniper

Increasingly higher temps can be a result from more current do to internal speeds or a place of lower electrical resistance,,,, As a Electrical engineer, I suggest to my students, to always under-think and go for the P/S,,

The "Clean the dirt" Idea was good...

Ley me know.... I'm very new here..

Good luck
