burning CD-insert disk

Hi Can anyone help? Trust me, I am very new to Windows Media and not the best with a computer. I am trying to burn some pictures to a CD on Windows Media and I keep getting an error of "Please enter disk, try again". None the less I do have a CD in the drive (CD-R). It is not reading it. Should I be using something else? Please help, this is very frustrating. This is one of the reasons I chose this computer because of the Vista and Windows Media and the built in burner. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks,

Angela:)

Hi agh815!

When you say "I am very new to Windows Media" are you talking about Windows Media Player? Try this if you want to burn pictures.

Click Start (windows icon) > My computer > find your pictures > highlight all the pictures you want to burn then look at the top of that window and you should see a red colored icon which is the burn cd icon. Click that and it should start burning. Let us know! :)

Hi Raj,

I did what you said and I keep getting an error that says insert a writable disk to drive E. To my knowedge, I only have one place to insert a disk. Could there be something else wrong?

Hi Angela,
If you go to My Computer how many drive letters do you have? It is like C, D, E, F? There anyway you can take a picture of it and post it here? :)

Hi Angela,

Try this:

Insert a recordable CD or DVD into your CD or DVD burner.

Click the Burn a CD or DVD notification that appears in Windows Media Center or, on the start screen, scroll to Tasks, and then click burn cd/dvd.

Depending on the type of recordable disc that you have inserted into the burner, on the Select Disc Format screen, click either Data CD or Data DVD, and then click Next.

Using the keyboard, enter a name for your DVD or CD, and then click Next.

On the Select Media screen, click the first type of digital media file that you want to add to the CD or DVD, and then click Next.

Click pictures that you want to add to your disc so that a check mark appears on the selected digital media file, and then click Next.

If you want to add more files to the disc, on the Review & Edit List screen, click Add More.

Repeat steps 5-7 until you have added all the digital media files to the disc that you want to burn.

After you have added all the files that you want to burn to the disc, on the Review & Edit List screen, click Burn DVD or Burn CD.

In the Initiating Copy notification, click Yes.

After the disc is burned, in the Completing Disc Creation notification, click Done

Also try putting the cd or dvd in your dvd drive then reboot then try the steps above. I am noticing that Windows Vista on my PC is not refreshing itself when i insert/take out a cd/dvd. I have to reboot first. ;)

Hi Raj,

I am thinking that there is something wrong with my cd drive because I have tried the steps that you have given me and I can't get past the first one. It keeps on saying to insert a cd or dvd. So I thought I would put in a CD Rom from one of our computer games and it will not read that either. I have also put in a disk that has pictures on it from a photo store and I can't view the pictures. Any thoughts?

Sorry to keep bothering you. I know the basics on a computer, enough to get by, but I don't know anything technical. I thought I was doing something wrong since this is my first time using the burner.

Hi angela,
Without trying to burn a cd/dvd if you put a non blank cd in your drive does Vista see it? If not leave the cd in the drive and reboot and I wonder if Vista sees it then? Lately I have had to reboot to get Vista to refresh itself when I do anything with my DVD drive.

Hi Angela,
Yea click Start > restart the computer then when it boots back up go to My computer and see if you can access the cd in the cd drive. If so, try putting in a blank cd, reboot then try to burn a cd.

agh....

A couple of other things to try:

Make sure the CD is nice and clean. You can do this by holding the CD by the edge, turning it upside down and reflecting your room light off it so you can inspect the surface. Swirl the CD around. any smudges or dirt needs to be wiped off with a clean lint free cloth (no water).

What brand of CD is it?

Some of the cheaper brands have a higher failure rate and it could be a bad batch of CD's.

I bought a batch of cheap CD recently and out of 30 of them 3 just wouldn;t be accepted. That's a 10% failure rate.

I buy known brand CD's and DVD's now.
