Programs, Games on a Fast Flash Drive?

Has anyone played around with some larger fast Flash drives by installing
games or programs (Office maybe) on it?

I realize that Flash drives are much slower than todays drives but figured someone might have tried it and was looking for some results and comments.

The Corsair flash survivor 8GB I have now is pretty snappy, Average read = 32.8 MB/s and Random access = 1.1ms so I figured once things are loaded it could perform pretty descent, we will see.

After CES starts I will be getting a Corsair 32GB flash drive to review and will try a few things like install Crysis and Steam (all installed games) and maybe try Office on it.

Hi MegaDETH,
I have installed Vista 64 Ultimate from a USB flash drive before. I performed the upgrade option. The transferring of windows files was only about 7 minutes worth during the install. The rest of the time was the hard drive grinding. It smoked a CD/DVD rom drive by far.

This week I will perform a test on my USB stick and install office 2007 on it and see how it runs. I have a PNY 8 gig flash drive. Sorry not sure of the speed. When I performed the Vista 64 upgrade I even plugged it in the front usb port rather than the back. I was kinda surprised I got away with that with the power consumption and all. :) Hope this helps.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

I am going to try installing a big game like Crysis "ON" the memory stick. Don't know if it will install onto the stick or not but worth a try.
