Vista - winrar won't install plz help!!!

hi im new to board and i have a problem installing winrar, when it downloads there is no setup icon on the desktop just this white sheet with a fold in the corner, i click on it and i get a open with messege, this is useless because none of the programs on the list like i.e. or adobe will open it up and let me install the program...what am i doing wrong?? any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Do you have this problem with any other EXE file?

The WinRAR download file should be winrar371.exe. Did you download it from here?

WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files

If you cannot get to work, 7-Zip is a great free alternative that handles RAR files and many more.

yea i am not only having this problem with just winrar but any exe file, don't know what the problem is

Ok. I thought that might be the problem. Go to the site below and click on the exe in the box to download the exefix_vista.zip file to your desktop. Follow the rest of the usage instructions at the site. If you are able to do the merge with it, it should fix the problem for you.
