System Utilities Software

Vista Guru
Folks,

I am running Vista (32-bit) and I am looking for some software to help keep things running smoothly. System Mechanic and TuneUp Utilities 2008 are two products that I have looked into. This sight has a nice list of free software that might do the job too.

The bottom line is that I don't mind spending money on a product if it is a better product. What are your opinions on the two products I mentioned above? Do you like something better? Should I stick with the free stuff?

All input is appreciated!

Thank you,

Scott

Hi Scott

Am I right in assuming you've also had a look at the Free and Free To Try Utility programs available on Download.com?

I had been using TuneUp Software's TuneUp Utilities 2006, 2007 & 2008 up until recently and have decided to leave it off my system now.

I generally stay away from Free programs, although I recognise that there are some effective free programs, but I need to be real sure they are okay before I install them.

The only Free programs I have installed currently are CCleaner, Spyware Terminator and A-Squared Free.

Although I understand TuneUp Utilities is held in high regard from the majority of users, I'm tending to use programs that specialise in one particular area as opposed to a utility that bundles many different applications in one, but that's just me.

Let me know what you end up deciding.

Kind regards

Neil

Neil,

Thank you for the response.

After using TuneUp Utilities 2008 in trial mode for a few weeks, I have come to the conclusion that the product offers the features I need at a reasonable price. I like the AIO concept for preventive maintenance. Maybe this tool would not be so good if something serious were to happen but I am trying to keep thing simple. I'll know more in a year or so.

I also decided to purchase Acronis TrueImage 11 for my backup needs. I already own Acronis DiskDirector.

Regards,

Scott
