AVG and Attachment problems

Everything was working fine. No problems. Suddenly AVG free version would attempt to connect to update itself and the connect box would just sit there forever. It seemed like it was unable to download the update. I have DSL with a router and a lan. Everything else works fine.

I uninstalled the program.

A few days later my old version of Eudora suddenly started giving me a problem. When I click on the attachment link in an email, I get a message saying windows is unable to find the attachment (jpg) and to make sure I typed it correctly. I can find the attachment on the hard drive and open it from there no problem.

I tried winmail and the attachments work fine in there.

Norton was uninstalled long ago. Turning off the firewall makes no difference. Creating a new directory for attachments does not help. When I look at the folders I see a colored in box for read only. Not check marked, but a colored box. I clear it, but the next time I look it is back. I am not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. I uninstalled Eudora and reinstalled it in a folder under C: rather than in program files. No difference.
