Current Version:5.5.0.212
File Size:17,646 KB
Operating System:
Designed for Windows® Vista™ 32-bit, XP and 2000. Release Date:March 12, 2008

I helped a friend of mine install this on her computer, and she's running X86(32bit), and I liked it a lot that I wanted to purchase my own, but I'm running X64?

Anybody know what's up with this issue?

I've looked around for a hot fix, or patch from Spyware Doctor, and I can't find anything for 64 bit.
My other option is to get Ad-Aware 2007 ver. 7.0.2.6, which also is very good.
All I want is a good spyware/adware remover for my system.
Any suggestions?

Dear Grimreaper

Yes I do have some suggestions.

Spyware Doctor might be good at catching low level spyware, but that's about it and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware 2007 free or paid version is not truly Vista x64 compatible. Yes it will allow you to do a scan in my experience on everything but the registry. I think their previous version being Ad-Aware SE Professional was alot better than their latest version, but that's just my opinion.

My recommendations for you are as follows:

1) Leave Windows Defender enabled a run a daily quick scan and maybe a full scan weekly for low-level spyware;

2) Download the free version of A-Squared Free. See link below.
a-squared Free (formerly a² free) Freeware! A2 is a free of charge Anti-Trojan, Anti-Worm, Anti-Dialer and Anti-Spyware Software - optimal protection

3) Download Spyware Terminator and enable everything except for their Internet Protection option which they refer to as 'Web Security Guard'. I'd suggest you use McAfee's free SiteAdvisor instead and leave IE 7's Phishing Filter enabled also.
Download free spyware removal and protection program - Spyware Terminator

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Neil
