Pctools

I tried to carry out a registry scan using Registry Mechanic, however I got a message saying RM is not compatible with Vista 64. The only problem is now whenever I boot up my pc it automatically opens up an internet connection to PCTOOLS. Can anyone advise as to how I can stop this.

Re: Pctools

did you check in your startup menu ? it may be in there. also if the program didn't work
for you then uninstall it and that may clear it .

Uninstalling the program or stopping it from loading in your startup (through msconfig) should take care of that one. For future firewall operations, I'd suggest Windows Live OneCare. It has an excellent outgoing firewall utility that allows you to block or allow programs access to the internet. Especially helpful for a program that likes to phone home. You can download an evaluation version here: Windows Live OneCare - Home

It does virus/spyware protection, multi-system maintenance and of course firewall operations. Well worth the subscription, and it comes with unlimited live technical support. I recommend it.
