Using WMC-Remote control, to other things, possible?

Hi there, I'm a new user at the forums. Just stumbled upon it while looking for Vista tips and tricks, and I have to start with saying, thanks for what seems to be a brilliant community with helpful people. I'm going to enjoy my stay! :)

To my question, if you don't mind.
I just bought a new laptop, Asus G2sg, and it came with Vista Ultimate, x64. Im not really a gamer, but i wanted a computer that gives me the possibility. The main reason for using this computer is like a portable studio. Being a musican nowdays is so much fun with all the digital audio applications around. I know vista x64 isnt great for that, but it works great so far!
Anyway, it came with a windows media center remote, and i wont be using it. So, I thought to myself, is there a way to configure the media remote to send keystrokes, instead of the preprogrammed whatever it sends?

Lets say i wanted the "play" button on the remote to act as pressing spacebar, to start my Sequencer programs.. endless possibilities for me since im not physically infront of the computer when i record, usually sitting few feet away.
I hope my question is clear. I havnt found anything googling, or searching the forums. And i reckon most people use their remote for media center, so there might not be such a great demand for what Im looking for.

Thanks for a great forum!

/Chris
