Windows 7 What Will the Touch Screen Be Cut?

Microsoft has just announced that MS-Windows 7 (I like the name Borg) will have a touch screen feature to it. We know that from the Longhorn/Vista over promising and then cutting features out like WINFS. So if MS really wants a late 2009 early 2010 release will MS cut features again just to get it out the door? Or will Windows 7 really just be Windows Vista 1.2 ie service pack 2 of Vista. I think it will be just Vista Service pack 2 with a few newer features for newer devices. MS knows people hate vista but i love it since i can now cheat at solitare and when you copy files and a file is in use it now asks you what you want it to do instead of just crapping out on you.

I don't actually know where you're going with this...

We don't know much about Windows 7 yet do we?
Vista also looked a hell like XP on Milestone 1, but look what it became!

So Windows 7 will be a lot more different than the first picture we saw.

remember how vista was going to blow away everone with all its new features> WinFS was going to be its biggest new feature, and then MS was late in getting it to market and they cut WinFS and other new features in Vista. I wonder now that MS is leaking out info and features like a touch screen support if some features of Windows 7 will get cut. I seem to remember a year or so ago MS said Windows 7 was going to have a new kernal. Now its been cut to an updated kernal of Windows Server 2008, which is an updated kernal of Vista:geek: So what will MS cut just to get Windows 7 to market? Will MS just take vista service pack 2 and call it Windows 7 to get it out on time. ITs seems to me that is what they are going to do.

Microsoft cut the Vista features like WinFS and others because 4 years of development got wasted after they realised the XP and 2k3 codebase was completely useless for SLI devices, 64bit processors, memory management, privilege process security, exNTFS operations, LDDM drivers and hundreds of other factors all forcing them to rewire the entire Windows Basecode for the features they wanted to originally include with Vista.

Now they have re-written the codebase we might finally see the features that where ment to be included, they just need the time to re-write them for all the new Windows-Core changes that released with Vista, Its also so everyone else can catchup with these new Core changes before they release a heap of other new Core changes with Windows 7.

I have no faith in M$ I think they are over promising with the features they cant deliver. I think Win7 will be just Vista Service Pack 2 since it will be delayed once again. M$ has never ever released an OS on time. Should it really take 6 years to get an OS out MS missed an entire OS cycle we soulf be on 7 now and just about to goto 8 now....

I tend to agree with that, 7 will be nothing more than Vista SP2.

They are not going to create a full new OS, it will be an operation to install things they missed out on in the original Vista.

In other words another 3 or 4 years to finish completing Vista

I also seem to remember Bill Gates saying that even numbered versions of Windows will be major releases and that odd number releases will be minor releases. Since Windows 7 is an odd number then I would say we are correct in that we will only see minor changes and fixes and hopefully some new features. Some say Windows XP SP2 was such a big change that it should have been called Windows 6 (vista). That is what I would have done plus added a new feature for the user interface and called it a day. The new user interface would be some sort of cross of xp with some vista user features like the new start menu and how it looks.
