If you permanently deleted the folder the only way to get them back is reinstalling since deleting that programfiles folder would have created huge instability and corruption throughout the entire system

Vista Home Premium 32-bit & Vista Ultimate 64-bit both Service Pack 2 W7 Pro RTM 7600 32 & 64

Re: stupid me! I deleted Program Files.

Hi jinxjack,

As you may, or may not be aware, the 64-bit versions of Vista actually have two program files folders, viz program files and program files(x86). This is because the 64-bit versions also support most, but not all, 32-bit software as well as the 64-bit versions. The 32-bit software is kept separate from the 64-bit, hence the two program files folders. The 64-bit software is installed in the program files folder whereas the 32-bit software is installed in the program files(x86) folder. Incidentally, just as the 64-bit version is referred as Vista x64, the 32-bit version is sometimes known as Vista x86 (the x86 actually refers to the name given to some early processors, the 486 series by Intel).
As dmex mentioned in his post, the only way for you to recover this folder is by reinstalling Vista. These folders are important system folders and must not be deleted.

The Long and short answer is no its not possible...You have to reinstall, if there was a way you would have heard about it by now, next time dont disable System Restore.

Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1....

Re: stupid me! I deleted Program Files.

The long answer being this:

Unless you just finished setting up windows about 1 second before you deleted Program Files, any program that you installed there would be from a third party installation - which you could not get from a Windows DVD.

But, I am curious - how in the world did you manage to delete it? Program Files is a restricted access folder - you would have been prompted by UAC more than once to make sure you really wanted to deleted this folder....

Re: stupid me! I deleted Program Files.

nope - you'll need to install vista from scratch, and then install all your programs again.

And not to be condescending or anything, but I hope you have learned your lesson regarding 'tools' - if you are not sure what something does, don't just try it to see what it does - read the manual, and ask questions. The biggest danger facing end users is the ability to do things to your system that are potentially dangerous with a simple tool in your hands- hence why I like Vista so much - it makes the OS a bit more novitiate proof - although not entirely....

Then again, *no* OS is 100% novitiate proof.
