Say The Time issue. . .

Thanks to the great folks here, I've found that Say The Time is a great, customizable system clock that runs great on Vista x64. Yet, now a strange problem has come up, and I'm hoping someone may have some insight. . .I've also emailed the Say The Time question, so hopefully a solution will be forthcoming.

As I mentioned, I've been running Say The Time about a week now, without an issue. But, unfortunately, today, I had to do a system restore to about 2 days ago, (a time period that Say The Time was perfectly functional) and now, when I start up, I get the pop up message that Say The Time has stopped working, and asks me to quit, or check online for a solution, I'm sure you know the pop up box I'm talking about.

I've done a complete uninstall of the application, and re-installed, and get the same error. So far, this is the only problem I've encountered since the system restore. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem?

Thanks again for your time.

Re: Say The Time issue. . .

They should be able to help you more, but it may in fact be a compatibility issue, as the registry changed, and it might be trying to do something in the registry that requires admin privileges. Try running it *once* with admin privileges and see what happens.

Re: Say The Time issue. . .

they haven't responded to my help request either yet. . .I am the only user on the computer, so isn't EVERYTHING I do done with admin privileges?

thanks for taking the time to read and offer assistance!

Re: Say The Time issue. . .

No. You need to realize that with Vista, even if you are logged into an account with administrator privileges, as a part of eh administrators group, you don't automatically have admin privileges when performing tasks.

Close STT, then right click on the shortcut and you *should* see a "Run as administrator" option in the context menu - click on that and you'll get prompted by UAC, obviously click continue, and then see if it crashes or not.

I suspect it puts a check field in the registry when it first installs, and if you did a System Restore, it might have noticed that things had been changed around and so it is "really" trying to tell you that the trial has been expired, but since it needs admin privileges for that it crashes.

Again, this is only my conjecture, so this may not produce anything other than another crash....

Re: Say The Time issue. . .

Since you've done an uninstall and a re-install, it is probably a system file error - take a look at System Files - SFC Command and follow the procedure to verify your system files.

Re: Say The Time issue. . .

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I suppose that's good lol, but doesn't solve my issue. At least it's a very minor one. I thank you both again for your time and effort in helping me.

By chance do you know of any similar programs for x64 Vista? Assuming I can't get this one to work again, I'd like to know if it's an issue with that specific ap, or something in the comp itself that is preventing any similar ap from working. . . I know both Chameleon Clock and Atomic Alarm Clock have x64 incompatibility issues. . .

Re: Say The Time issue. . .

But you had this working for a while....

Plus, your original thread looking for this app didn't garner many results, until someone pointed out STT. I'd go back to that thread and explain how STT seems to not work correctly and see if anyone else has any other ideas.
