VMWare server & Vista x64???

Heya,

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64.

I tried to install VMWare Server when I came across a very big problem.

It has 4 drivers that weren't installed b/c Vista x64 requires that they be signed.

Is there a way around this, or am I just not allowed to have VMWare Server?

If it's not possible, I'm open to other alternatives. Assuming it's free like VMWare Server. :P

thanks!

Re: VMWare server & Vista x64???

The Drivers are:

VMware kernel driver

VMware USB monitor

VMware network API driver

VMware bridge driver

Obviously these are pretty important, so I need to find a way to get them in there, without having to do the F8 option on every boot. These drivers are 64-bit, so did the publisher just not sign them?

Re: VMWare server & Vista x64???

I got the Beta version of VMWare Workstation and it installed perfectly fine in Vista x64.

You can sign up to be a Beta tester of it to use it, and you'll get a license key both on the web page as well as by email.

Re: VMWare server & Vista x64???

Oh cool.

So I'm looking @ the beta page, and it's requiring an application, which is typical. But it is requiring a lot of information about being a company. Am I only supposed to download this on behalf of a company?

Also, does this beta have a logic/time bomb? Is it going to die on me leaving me without my VM once the beta is over?

thanks,
~Luf.

Re: VMWare server & Vista x64???

I love the beta so far, but I can't stand the web interface.

Ended up finding the VIclient tarball and installing the Infrastructure 2.5 client, which is pretty amazing in comparison to the web access. It's kind of strange that they have the client in the directory of the beta. Not complaining though, made it easier for me to install. :P

Currently have my Ventrilo server running on a FreeBSD VM. So far so good. =)
