software not installing please help!!

hi, im running vista home premium x64 on an E8600 cpu on a asus P5Q-pro mobo, with a sapphire HD4870X2 video card and alot of my cds that came with my components will not install; i keep getting a message saying the autorun has stopped working and if i try to bypass it and run the setup file from the cd i get a message saying that tjat has stopped working. i even tried copying the contents of the cd to the hard drive and running it from there but to no avail. also all of the few games i have tried to install have failed including age of empires 3 and battlefield 2142; all having the same errors.

software i have tried to install without success includes;
age of empires 3
battlefield 2142
cyberlink dvd suite ver. 5
the video card drivers (had to download the drivers which worked)

i may be wrong but im thinking that iv just been unlucky enough to have tried nothing but 32 bit software as of yet, but im unsure, its really annoying and considering going back to xp

Re: software not installing please help!!

Hi Andrew,

You will need to get the drivers and software for your Mobo from the Asus website, After its installed the chipset drivers and others you should be able to use CDs and DVDs properly

Re: software not installing please help!!

i tried that and it still hasnt worked, i installed vista 32bit and still the same error occurs, i then installed xp and again i get the xp equivelant error message when trying to run most exe files and such. whats strange is that the mobo cd that came with it works the first time, so i install the drivers which it restarts the computer to complete the installation, and once im back into windows and i attepmt to run the same cd, it no longer works and gives me the "___" has stopped working / "___" has encountered a problem and needs to close (xp version of error). please help me as i cant really do much on my new pc which i spent a decent amount of money on. could it possibly be a hardware incompatibilty problem? or should i try to update the mobo's bios firmware?
