    AutoCAD 2000 onto x64?

Hi, i've spent the last hour or so browsing the net trying to find out how i can nstall my AutoCAD 2000 AD onto my computer running windows vista ultimate x64. So far i've made no progress whatsoever.

Can anybody shed some light? Basically i run the setup program which asks if i want to instal autocad or migration assistance as it did on my other past computers. When i click Autocad it says:

    'Unsupported 16-Bit Application

The program or feature "\??\G:\setup.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatability with 64-bit versions of windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit windows compatible version is available.'

I really need to use this program so any help would be awesome.

According to your error Autocad 2000 AD isn't a valid 64 bit application and you won't be able to install it. As the message states, you should contact the software vendor to see if there is a 64 bit version available.

    Re: AutoCAD 2000 onto x64?

Autodesk recommends AutoCad 2008/2009 for Vista 32/64 bit. I doubt they will ever revise Acad2000.

AutoCAD® 2008, AutoCAD® 2009 and AutoCAD LT® 2009 are compatible with the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista™ Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business and Enterprise.
AutoCAD LT® 2008 is compatible with the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business and Enterprise.
Service Pack 2 for AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD LT 2007 adds support for Windows Vista 32-bit versions for these releases

2007 can be installed on x64 with a hack, other than that it's all 08 or newer. The only way you'll get 2000 to run is using VMWare, but performance would be horrid. I work for a software company that designs 3rd party apps for AutoCAD.

First, a basic fact: 64-bit Vista is unable to run 16-bit software. Completely unable. Will not work, period. It's just how Microsoft designed the system.

32-bit Vista can still handle old 16-bit executables, however.

Now then... your error message seems to be indicating that the Autocad installer is a 16-bit installer. Since Vista x64 cannot handle 16-bit programs... it cannot run the installer, even if the actual application turns out to be 32-bit.

The only chance would be if you could actually copy the program directory from another machine - on older software that has been known to work, though I would cross my fingers for that one.

Otherwise, Autodesk would have to port the install script to a 32bit or 64bit installer. Not gonna happen. Keeping a few legacy customers happy isn't worth that kind of resource investment - not when they can simply tell you to upgrade to the latest version and then get some more money from you.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but your chances are slim to none.

best option for you is to get AutoCAD 2008 or newer version. It has a x64bit installer but you need to install x32bit also on a x32bit OS (different computer is ok even if it is not networked) then after you install it on their respective OS you need to go to the portable license utility of autocad on the x64 and make a note of the computer name and computer i.d. (exact manner as it appears) after that, go to where you installed autocad x32 bit then... portable license utility also and hit export license then add then type the name and id of the computer where you installed x64 bit after you save it somewhere hit ok and close... lastly... go back to x64bit os... go to portable license utility then hit import license and browse on the license file you get in x32bit OS (you copied it on a USB and paste in x64bit OS of course) after that just ok and close... you're good to go.

That's what i thought. Thanks guys. Managed to blag a copy of 2004 which works in 32bit mode on 64bit desktop. Main thing is i avoided a monstrous pay out for a new autocad cos quite frankly it isn't worth what they charge for it.

    Re: AutoCAD 2000 onto x64?

I have gotten Auto Cad 2000 to work with XP x64. I have also gotten it to work with a third party application sheet metal application.

This is basically how I did it.

I installed it onto a x86 based machine and then coppied the acad2000 folder over to the x64 machine. I then had to copy over the system files and place in them in the x86 system folder.

The only thing that has not worked in ACAD and I am still trying to figure it out is when i click 0Snap settings it does not come up and i get an error. i think i need to copy over something or change something in the registry but I can not figure it out.

The main problem is that x64 will not run 16 bit applications. However ACAD 2000 is not a 16 bit application but rather a 32-bit application. The installer is 16 bit.

If Autotask would come up with a 32 bit installer for ACAD2000 everything should work fine. Since x64 will run 32-bit applications.

Will never happen. 2000 is not a supported version. Also Installing it the way you are is in violation of the license agreement.

Theoretically, it's probably not in violation if you were to dual-boot, and copied it from XP to Vista x64 on the same piece of hardware.

Either way - really, who's going to care? No one would sue him for such a procedure, assuming he has a valid license and uninstalls it from his 32-bit machine immediately afterwards.
