Brand new computer, two annoying problems...

Hello all. I just found this site and it's great. Has a lot of info.

I just to the plung to vista and purchase a HP pavilion laptop running vista home premium x64. This computer is 1 week old. Anyway, I'm running into two seperate issues. Even though they have only happened like 2 or 3 times each and don't happen all the time, it is getting annoying especially since it's a 1 week old computer.

Problem #1- While booting up computer, enter pass word, hit enter, vista starts to open. Pop up comes out "the window failed to open vista will no close" or something to that effect. The screen will then turn completely black, but yet I can still see my mouse cursor and move it. I resolve this by pressing ctrl, alt, del and select "log out". Then I will just log back in and everything works fine. While an easy fix and has only happened like 3 times, it's still annoying.

Problem #2- While working on the computer, might have 2 programs open. Last time was internet explorer and outlook, computer freezes, screen locks and mouse locks. Only way out of this screen is to hold power button down. This problem has only happened to me twice but still, this is a brand new computer.

Besides unistalling bloatware, I have install programs as well. The ones I can think of are Rocketdocks, Office 2007 ultimate, limewire, Norton anti virius 2008, Vuze, quicken 2007 and deskspace. I wonder if one of these programs are having trouble with x64 bit OS. The only ones I have at startup are rocketdocks, norton and deskspace, so it might be one of these. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Click start then run msconfig and goto startup and disable all the startup programs and restart if windows starts up correctly then reemable one program at a time until you get that error then you found your problem.

Thanks for the advice mansrm81, but since my problem doesn't always happen, I feel this is not a good solution. Any other advice?

Re: Brand new computer, two annoying problems...

Rocketdock isn't compatible with vista 64 that could cause your problem.
All your other programs you installed are compatible with vista 64
