Solved Media Center missing all of a sudden on Vista Ultimate!???

Hey everyone,

So I look for Media Center to play my NBC Nightly News, and all of a sudden, it's not there anymore. My Vista x64 installation works rock solid, and I couldn't be happier, but where, oh where, is my Media Center??

I don't remember uninstalling it, but I'm not aware of a way to even do that!???

Is there any way to restore it, or maybe to download it from somewhere and re-install just that. I don't want to re-install Vista from my DVD, I really don't. It's humming a lot just great.

Can someone please help me with this?? Maybe I acidentally "hid it". LOL...I know my thoughts sounds funny, or crazy even. I just can't explain it to myself how a core component of Vista Ultimate can disappear like that.

Thanks for any replies in advance!!

Hi Crunch,

first thing to check is C:\Windows\ehome which is where vista keeps the files

try running ehshell.exe with and without admin privileges

if the files are there you may and if still no joy

you may want to try a SFC /scannnow and see if if it finds any problems

hope this helps

Thank you, sir! There it is. Media Center is up and running!!

A quick follow-up: How could it have disappeared like that? I'm sure I did something that I do not recall, as I haven't used it in a good while.

Thanks again!!

hi crunch

Probably just moved or deleted the shortcut, have done it myself in the past thanks to MS creating icons in all sorts of places and me being over enthusiastic with cleanup

glad to see your up and running again

Thanks again...I've asked this question in other forums, and everyone else thought "Ohh my...your Vista installation is totally messed up"...LOL...

I always knew it wasn't, as it never crashes, no matter what I throw at it, and I do a lot with it, as I happen to like OS's. lol...That's how Media Center got "lost" as well, I suppose.

You're the man. Reputation added! :-)
