| Vista Business 32bit | Handy little tool to clean up MSCONFIG I hope this isn't a repeat of an earlier thread. I did a search but couldn't find anything on it. If it's a duplicate, then move/edit as appropriate. Most of us are familiar with programs that install themselves in the MSconfig.exe file to run everytime Windows starts. Most of us go in and uncheck all that crap except for the essential stuff. That's great, but you often end up with an MSconfig looking like this ![]() For those that want to clean up all that unchecked crap, one can either go into the registry and clean manually. But I found this little program which can do it too. ![]() It's simple. It's small. And it's free. Pic above says v1.2 but here is the link to the latest version v1.5 MSConfig Cleanup - optimize your Windows startup Great site you have here. Have found lots of good tips. Just trying to help myself. |

| Vista Business 32bit | Re: Handy little tool to clean up MSCONFIG Wow. I didn't know Crap Cleaner did this too. Can you tell me where that setting is? I love CCleaner. One of the best utilities out there. I love programs that are simple, functional, and small. That, to me, is great programming. Wish the Microsoft folks were as good. ![]() I run 32-bit Vista so I'm not sure if this will run 64-bit. If so, sorry for the error. This program doesn't repeat what the msconfig file does. Most of us know to uncheck the items we don't want to run in our msconfig file. All this program does is clean up the UNCHECKED items. You wont get a performance increase from using it. This is more general house-keeping to delete all those UNCHECKED items that tend to build up over time. Of course, you could go into your registry and manually delete these too. Pretty much everyone here is capable of doing that. Or just leave them unchecked and not worry about them. This is just another way of doing it in a very small, unobtrusive, and convenient way. |
