Re: utorrent

Its easy to use just make sure you setup the port that it needs into your router if you have 1. you can also add the port into windows firewall or whatever firewall your using for both tcp and udp. I'm using utorrent right now without any problems.

Re: utorrent

are there any risks of using it, like downloading virus and such things? if so should i download some programs to check on that?

as for the router thing, i am on a laptop with wireless connection. but the house is wired up with a router because i share the connection with 3 other computer. what is the setting up the port with the firewall for? and how it is done.

sorry for asking these noob questions as some of you have probably answered them 1000 times before.

Re: utorrent

After the download is complete use your antivirus software and scan the files you have downloaded to check and see if they are infected. You need to type in 192.168.2.1 into your browser and the router info will come up then you need to goto applications and games or virutal servers the add utorrent then the port that your using into the area where its says port the add the last number or numbers of your computers ip address then check the enable then apply. For windows firewall goto control panel/ windows firewall/ the click on change settings then goto exceptions then click on add port then put utorrent in the name then port number your using and do that 2x 1 for tcp the other for udp click ok. Opening the port will make you connectable to other people downloading the same files as you and make your speed faster.

Re: utorrent

uTorrent is great. I use it along with Bitlord on my machines and they both work really well.

Re: utorrent

I suggest also using the utorrent ip filter to prevent any unwanted nasty connection... or if you only using 32 but vista then you can also use peergardian.... but then again if you only using it for legitimate files then there shouldn't be too much to worry about but like always better safe than sorry

Re: utorrent

I've been using AVG 8 Free Edition with uTorrent for ever and never had any problems, when you're downloading torrents the only way to get infected is to download infected files. Therefore the only way you can get infected is if you personally choose to download a "shady" file and it ends up being infected. Only download torrents from trusted websites, and scan the downloaded files after they're downloaded before using them as stated above.

Also, try and "Seed" the files you download. When you're downloading on uTorrent you will have a section labeled "Ratio", this is the ratio of data that you have downloaded/uploaded to people. If you're able to keep the torrent running until your ratio is 1.00 people will have no problems with you, people who download torrents and then stop before uploading to other people have low ratios (under 0.8 usually). These people that download and then stop are called "leachers" and only serve to slow down the speed of the torrent download for everyone else. So help the community help you by downloading and then SEEDING (keeping the torrent running) until you have AT LEAST a 0.5-1.0 ratio!
