Vista - Old software - compatible mode

Does this work for anything? I've tried setting the properties of various older Windows and DOS programs, that ran under XP, to run in compatible mode. It doesn't work no matter how I set it. Help?

Hi Bdesilva, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Compatibility Mode does not always work for some older programs. Especially utility programs.

What is the name of the program you are trying to use?

You might also check at the program's website to see if there is a new version or update available for it to allow it to run properlly in your 64 bit Vista.

It's not working with any I try. None of them have updates. The recent ones I've tried are:

1) Lifeform by Fitnessoft
2) Ecco by Netmanage
3) Advanced Revelation (a dos program)

Looking at those programs, it looks like you will need to get a new versions of them for Vista instead.

Not available. Bummer. Looks like I need to run another machine then. I support that old DOS program for a client still. Does Vista have some sort of built in VMWare I could use for it?

You may be able to run the programs inside Vista on a Virtual PC that has the OS needed to run it.
