Changing Power Mgmt. Profiles Locking Up System

This problem could be related to the issue I posted in this thread about my corrupt file issues. I am pretty sure I posted this in the correct section, I apologize for my n00berdom if I didn't :o.

On my laptop, specs in profile, about 1 in 3 times I change my Power Management Settings, from Power Saver to High Performance or vice-versa, my system irreversibly locks up. This can also happen if I plug in, or unplug the laptop to charge the battery, but not as often. The only way to unlock it is to hold the power button down until it shuts off. When the system is locked, I cant even move the cursor, the clock doesn't advance, it is locked up and fubar.

I find that this problem is easily replicated when I do not restart my system, say every 2 days. If I restart my system often, I don't have any problems, but it still makes me nervous that I could lose something I am working on, because I plugged in/changed my power settings.

I have no idea what to do with this problem, I have run a sfc /scannow and I will attach the details to this thread. Any help is appreciated.
