| Currently Windows XP SP3, but planning to get a new System with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit | Urgent Compatibility Questions I am about to order my new PC right now and I am wondering if the following Programs will work on my Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium (Has the Ultimate Version anything that really makes me to invest the 50 more bucks on it???) ![]() Adobe Photoshop CS-3 mIRC (Gamers.IRC) Opera (newest) Mozilla Firefox (newest) Everest Home Edition (free) Teamspeak˛ Ventrilo (2.1,2.3,3.0) HLSW (servertool) QIP (ICQ) Free YouTube to mp3 Converter Logitech Setpoint OpenOffice.org 3.0 xfire (gamers-messenger) Windows Live Messenger (surely works ;D) Avira Antivir Personal Free edition ZoneAlarm Firewall (already heared that it does not work, my beloved firewal )I need these Tools for administrating my Servers: putty winSCP Filezilla Games: Wolfenstein:EnemyTerritory (already heared that it works but with a few bugs) Command&Conquer:Generals (For a few it works, for others it doesnt? Why is that the case?) EnemyTerritory:QuakeWars Call of duty 4:Modern Warfare Call of duty 5: world at war Crysis (including Warhead) Far Cry 2 GTA 4 (really really really the most important right now )Wonder why Programs are working for some Users on 64 bit and for some it doesnt...? Can someone explain this? Is it hardware based or depends which vista 64bit version you have? I don't know. The most Tools should work on 64 bit? Isn't there an emulator for 32 bit just like WINE on linux? Thanks for all Answers |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: Urgent Compatibility Questions I am about to order my new PC right now and I am wondering if the following Programs will work on my Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium (Has the Ultimate Version anything that really makes me to invest the 50 more bucks on it???) ![]() Adobe Photoshop CS-3 mIRC (Gamers.IRC) Opera (newest) <-- works like a charm Mozilla Firefox (newest) <-- works like a charm Everest Home Edition (free) Teamspeak˛ Ventrilo (2.1,2.3,3.0) HLSW (servertool) QIP (ICQ) Free YouTube to mp3 Converter Logitech Setpoint <-- works like a charm - Has a separate 64bit version to download OpenOffice.org 3.0 <-- works like a charm xfire (gamers-messenger) Windows Live Messenger (surely works ;D) <-- works like a charm Avira Antivir Personal Free edition ZoneAlarm Firewall (already heared that it does not work, my beloved firewal )I need these Tools for administrating my Servers: putty <-- works like a charm winSCP <-- works like a charm Filezilla <-- works like a charm Games: Wolfenstein:EnemyTerritory (already heared that it works but with a few bugs) Command&Conquer:Generals (For a few it works, for others it doesnt? EnemyTerritory:QuakeWars Call of duty 4:Modern Warfare Call of duty 5: world at war Crysis (including Warhead) <-- works like a charm, and has a 64bit loader when it detects taht your OS is 64bit - which is actually better performance-wise Far Cry 2 GTA 4 (really really really the most important right now )Wonder why Programs are working for some Users on 64 bit and for some it doesnt...? Can someone explain this? Is it hardware based or depends which vista 64bit version you have? I don't know. The most Tools should work on 64 bit? Isn't there an emulator for 32 bit just like WINE on linux? Thanks for all Answers As for emulator, yeah, it is built into the OS - WOW64 (Windows On Windows 64bit). So, yeah, 70% of my apps are still 32bit. Finally, there *is* a 64bit version of Firefox that you can build yourself (or download from a couple of builders) - but there is no 64bit Flash, and no plugins for 64bit JAVA (there *is* 64bit JAVA though) so I stick with the 32bit browsers. I am currently running Fx 3.1B1 without a hitch, and have been running it since 3.1a1 first came out. I *do* use the 64bit version of Thunderbird as I check 12-14 accounts with Thunderbird and I like the speediness of the multi-threaded email program. |
