Installing Linux as second OS in Vista

I have acquired a new HP 2 duo core. T5870 with Vista windows Business. I partitioned the hard dis so that I could install Linux. The partiontioning was easy. However I have not been able to install Linux Ubuntu 8.0.? on it. Each time I try, there are errors. all-over!! Is it possible to install Linux on Vista if so how?
Thanks for any help

it is possible. how are you partitioning the drive? keep in mind that it is much easier to just leave a bunch of space unallocated and load up ubuntu to create the main and swap partitions through the disk itself
