Roxio or Nero apps?

Okay I'm putting together my new system which will be running Vx64 OS. I own both Nero 9 full and Roxio's Creator 20009 Ultimate and trying to make a decision.

As far as I can tell both offer about the same burning/editing options and seems kind of silly to install both if I really only need one or the other. Here are the Pro's/Cons I can think of for each but would appreciate the advice of others.

Nero 9:
Pros-
• Have been using it for some time and am used to its settings
• Have bought all the plug-ins for it

Cons-
• Read a fair number of posts concerning ppl having problems installing it on X64
• Runs in 32 bit compatible mode for most of the apps

Creator 2009 Ultimate
Pros-
• Has basically everthing that Nero has including Blu-ray features
• Not sureif its X64 app but their site says its x64 compatible

Cons-
• would have to learn burning with a new program (learning curve)

Would really appreciate other ppls opinions on which is better

I think I'd try Imgburn 64 bit version first. See if that works. It doesn't seem to cause a problem with other burning software that I've ever noticed. Likely you can just leave it on even if you put Nero or another on later.

Humm, the prob is I need/want to be able to edit video's and also burn backup DVD's with app installs and such. can image burn do all that? I thought it mainly just burned from image files.

I need to able to do more

I understand that but it's good practice to do small things that will show your system works or doesn't. You can install Imgburn go into build mode, and just make a data DVD with any old bunch of files and see if it burns. If you spend 4 hours configuring some big program, then it doesn't burn, what a waste of time.

You may be doing jobs other than what I do on the PC but for video conversion I like
FAVC, DVD Flick, DVD Rebuilder, AviDemux mainly. AviDemux can do some video editing. For more sophisticated stuff then maybe you want motion menus and all that. I'd rather keep it simple. A button or image button is fine with me.

Plus there's nothing to stop you from putting the other stuff on also. But Imgburn should tell you in five minutes if you have some problems with the burner.

Ah I see where your coming from now. Not worried concerning the HW tho. I was just wondering which of the 2 app suites people had found worked best for them was all

I would try Roxio first. I heard good things from that, and its pretty simple to learn. I saw screen shots of it and the GUI is simple as Nero. IF that doesnt work then go with Nero. You may have to install it multiple times if it doesnt work the first time. It takes forever for it to install and uninstall though.

I gotcha'. When I first started burning I used Nero. After awhile though a lot of good free converters became available like the ones I mentioned. FAVC is really cool. If you have multiple cores you can launch a video converter such as QuEnc or HCenc for each core. Plus they're light on resources. Anyway if it floats your boat it's good. :)

I used both Nero and Roxio, but love Nero 8 Ultra, version 9 seems way too bloated.
As for Roxio, it's not bad, installs with Vista X64 good .
