Missing Tablet Components-- Please Help

I just got a Wacom Bamboo tablet for my Windows Vista Inspiron 1525 Laptop.

After research,

I found that there were programs that you could use with your tablet. (Ex: Windows Journal, and that program that recognizes your Handwriting)

I don't have these (or possibly, any) tablet components.

Yes, I searched for it in the Start menu, but nothing came up.

I even went to Control Panel>Programs> Turn Windows Features On or Off, and the Tablet PC folder didn't even show up.

I also saw that there is a tablet feature on Microsoft Word, and I don't see that, either.

Why? How do I get these components?

Hi,
Check Control Panel - Programs - Turn Windows Features on and Off

Scroll down to Tablet PC Components and make sure this is ticked

That should give you the programs and utilities you require

These features are I believe available on all versions except vista basic

Crap... i think I have Vista Basic...

But, I'm not completely sure... Is there any way to find out?

Also, I went to that menu, and there was no Tablet PC Components folder, at all...

Could I possibly download it from somewhere?

G'Day Juster.

Click on Start Orb / Button.

In Start Search space, type in Welcome Centre

In window that opens, under Programs,Click on Welcome Centre.

Detail on page that displays, shows which version of Vista you have.

Okay, thank you so much!

I do have Basic. This means (according to barman) that I do not get these tablet components...

Could I possibly download them from somewhere?

Re: Missing Tablet Components-- Please Help

Hi,

although the Microsoft specific tablet add-ons are not available in Vista Basic edition that does not mean that you cannot use the tablet to enhance your ease of use.

if you look for applications with pressure sensitivity you will find number of useful applications - mostly in the graphics field but others too.

The Gimp and artweaver are two applications which have full pressure support and both are freeware

GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Artweaver - Free art software screen shot and mini-review.

a quick google also found this - have not checked compatability or suitability but is a place to start

Download ritePen for Windows Freeware - ritePen(r) is an advanced handwriting recognition software for Windows-based pen-enabled computers.
