| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Unlocker shell tool for 64 bit? Unfortunately Unlocker won't work in Vista 64. Is there another tool similar? I hope? |

| Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: Unlocker shell tool for 64 bit? Hi MilesAhead, dunno if you saw this already, but Process Explorer. It can identify a process that has any file hook/s as well as remove those hook/s. bit late, but hope that helps (at least for others) |

| Win7x64 | Re: Unlocker shell tool for 64 bit? Just to add to that, actually removing any particular hook ("handle") may be dangerous from a data integrity point of view - the file(s) which you're hoping to unlock may potentially be corrupted. An app opens handles to a file because it intends to read or write to the file. If the file has not been "closed" yet in some sense that the app thinks is appropriate, and yet the handle is removed through another mechanism (ProcExp, "Unlocker"... whatever), the app may no longer be able to properly finish what it was doing and the file may remain in an inconsistent state. It's safer to merely close the app which has open handles to the file. That way, it will presumably finish everything it was doing with the file and leave it in a completed, consistent state. |

| Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: Unlocker shell tool for 64 bit? yep, I totally agree with you on that. I only use these programs on software I'm uninstalling, virtual CDdrives (when deleting any source files) or something I suspect that is nasty on my system, etc, etc. but you put a good point for other users. |

| Windows Vista Business 64 bit | Re: Unlocker shell tool for 64 bit? You may try using LockHunter It's a similar freeware tool to Unlocker except it support both 32 and 64 bit platforms has more clear interface and more foolproof, because it deletes files to recycle bin rather than forever. Get it here: http://lockhunter.com |
