Outlook 2007 Search not working

Hi all,
This is my first post, I hope I am in the right forum.
There seems to be a recurring problem with the Search function for many people and so far I cannot seem to find a solution that works. I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 and a couple of days ago I started to have problems with the search in Outlook 2007. A quick search on the internet seemed to confirm my assumption that the index was at fault/corrupt. The thing is that no matter what I do I cannot fix it and believe me, I have spent the last two days trying to fix it, by reading forums like this and searching the internet for a solution. Here is what happens - In Outlook 2007, when I am in a mail subfolder, If I search for the word "the", search won't find it, no matter whether I use Instant Search, or Advanced Search. In Instant Search, if I take the "Try searching again in All Mail Items" option, then it does return some results but from only one of the three Data (PST) files that I have active, although it is not the PST file the subfolder is in, it is always the same PST file that returns results. So to me it looks like the index is well and truly screwed up, it looks like two of my PST files are not being indexed. I have checked that the Indexer Service and Windows Search services are both running. I have tried running scanpst.exe against all three PST files and I have compacted them. I have tried deleting all the indexes and rebuilding them through Control Panel/Indexing Options. I have tried dropping the mail indexes separately in Outlook 2007, via Tools/Instant Search/Search Options then clearing the ticks against my three data (PST) files in the "Indexing "section. Then I close outlook, reopen it and use the same steps to tick the "indexing" of my three data files so that Outlook will rebuild the index. After a long wait the end result is that Search STILL DOES NOT WORK!!! There is NO change in the results. I have lost count of the number of times I have reboooted my system in the past couple of days. Another highly annoying example of this very frustrating Operating System. I am really not surprised a lot of people switch to Macs.

Like everyone else I really need to be able to search in my email - SO EXACTLY WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Yours, Very Disgruntedly
