Microsoft word 2007

I was using microsoft word 2007 last night. While typing a large document(10 pages), it decided to stop working. It then shut down and I lost an hours work. I know I should has been saving as I go along but I have NEVER had this problem before(in XP). I am running windows vista home premium 64bit. Has anyone else had this problem, and have you found a fix for it. I did submit a report but no information was available... Is this a common problem with Word 2007 and vista? If so how often do you save your work? Is my software running the same as everyone elses or do I have a problem??

Thanks, Munch

Saying that it suddenly stopped working leaves me hanging in the dark, if you want to solve this problem I will need an event log or some log of the crash please.

I will have to get the info you are asking for when I get home from work. Sorry, I was just thinking that this might be a common problem, like when IE decides it needs to stop responding and terminate...

Munch I have never come across Word 2007 just closing down without the possibility of recouping your work.

Have you done a search for the document?

I think I need to save my page when I start it so it will auto save while I work. I think that might fix my issues for the most part..

Hi Minchmouth

No, there isn’t any issue with Vista and Office 2007 as far as I know. I use some form of the Office suite every day, especially word, and have not had a crash.

You can run the “Microsoft Office Diagnostic” program and it should find and repair whatever is ailing Office 2007.

To run the diagnostics open any office app (in this case I'll use Word) then
- Click on the office icon (far upper left) and choose “Word Options" (since we're using word),
- Click on “Resources” then
- Click “Diagnose” and follow the instructions.

Incidentally, do you have the all the Office updates, including SP1 for office?

Thanks for the pointer Sygnus21, I ran the diagnostic test, no errors found. I wonder could it be something to do with my UAC, or my antivirus sofware? I have McAfee security suite, I haven't had any problems with it though.... I do get the occasional IE not responding problem, but I understand this is common for Vista 64bit... I will look into it more later.

Sometimes a startup program can cause other applications to crash and burn. For example , if you are into Word and your good old antivirus is running a scan in the background , then sometimes it might crash Word. The best thing to diagnose would be to reboot system in safe mode and then try using word for sometime . If still it crashes , may be time to get it reinstalled or disable the add-ins . If not , then you better check your startup programs and background security scan.

Thanks MSDOS, I haven't had this problem again, I have used word everyday and just that one crash. I will save as I go and wait and see if I get another crash and hopefully I will get a error report to track down issues..

Under the same area I gave for doing a diagnose - instead of going to "Resources" go to "Save", there you can change the "Save AutoRecover Information time" to whatever you feel comfortable with. You can also see where the files would be save at. Perhaps your lost infor it there? You can even change the location.

Just something to think about.

Good luck.
