No need to create a new account. If iTunes come up black when opened, just click anywhere in the program and it will clear up. It's a bug of some sort. I get this sometimes, but not that often. And since you have the 64-bit version of Vista, you need to use the 64-bit version of iTunes.

Hi yeah the window is only black with itunes no other programs. I have clicked on the screen and some words appear but still unable to do anything with it as if you move the sidebar up and down it just drags the writing around creating white lines everywhere. i have tried installing many different version of itunes including the 64bit version (itunes 8) the only version that has worked was itunes 7 but it came up with a message saying the version was too old when i tried to use my ishuffle with it. Any more advice?

May be you can try to backup the registry and clear all the entries that are related to iTunes in registry (Using Find Option) and try to install on a new user account.

i will also try to post the dll files list that iTunes installs.

Hmmm....I'm currently using the 64-bit version of iTunes 8.0.2.20 on Vista Ultimate x64 and only get this once in a blue moon, clicking inside of it usually clears the issue up. If you have Vista 64, then you must use the 64-bit version of iTunes 7.6 or greater. Make sure the downloaded file says "iTunes64Setup.exe"

If you've done all that, then...

- Try turning off Windows Aero and see what happens when you run iTunes?

- Update your video card drivers - yeah, I know it sounds strange, but weird graphical errors???

- Try this trick - iTunes in Vista opens to a black screen : itunes, black, vista, screen

After trying these, then I "might" think about creating a new user account; although I suspect the samething might happen there since this is a known iTunes bug.

Minimized game + open Itunes then close Itunes = black screen? - [H]ard|Forum
iTunes all weird/black when first opened - Windows

I'm glad to hear you got it running. Just know that it shouldn't have to be run in compatibility mode; though I know Vista has some strange inconsistencies :)
