I have installed vb6 on Vista and cannot save files from projects copied from xp. I have removed the read only on vb98 and the folder, but keep getting path/File access error. The only difference i can see is vb was installed to C:\ on XP and D:\ on Vista. I can create a new project and save with no problem. Installed vb as Administrator and am working as administrator Does anyone know what i can do ?

Don't know if I'd try it on Vista. I started to install on Vista and got "this product has known compatibility issues" yadda yadda. So I put in on the XP side. Even then, with XP installed on H: it still wanted to put a bunch of the MSDN stuff on C:. It's just quirky. I think you'd have better luck running it on XP. Even Visual Studio 8 Express didn't want to run right for me on Vista until the VS SP1. Then it installed and seems to work ok.

I'd cut my losses before you invest too much time.

Think i found the problem. I am used to having a shortcut on my desktop to the vb98 folder and in vista I think you have to open from the menu as administrator.
heres a tip for installing to vista
When you install it, right click and select "run as administrator". Do not install it from the autorun or from doubleclicking the cd icon. You need to "Explore" the cd and then find the setup.exe file to right click on...
Do not install service pack 5 for VS/VB. Go straight to service pack 6. SP 5 has issues with its MDAC version whereas sp 6 has the updated MDAC version that contains fixes and compatibility with Vista.

glad you got it working. I couldn't install off the CD at all. I found a page on the web with step by step how to copy to HD first, then yadda yadda to install. I know it works 100% in XP so might as well just use it there. I'm going to have XP installed on at least one machine for a few more years I think. :)
