Enabling S.M.A.R.T

I was wondering if S.M.A.R.T was enabled for my HDD.
I've checked my BIOS and have seen no options for it. (Not sure what my BIOS type is but I have a COMPAQ Presario C700t and the BIOS version is F.34
I've also tried to access the advanced BIOS (I Googled it and the only thing I've seen was to press Crtl + F1 to access the advanced menu in the BIOS, but nothing happens when I do that.)

I also see a hidden entry in my Task Scheduler under DiskDiagnostic called 'Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticResolver' and the description says:

"The Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticResolver warns users about faults reported by hard disks that support the Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) standard. This task is triggered automatically by the Diagnostic Policy Service when a S.M.A.R.T. fault is detected."

I've always had it as Disabled and I enabled it. When rebooting and viewing again, it shows it has not run. If I run it manually, it triggers DFDWiz.exe in system32 but nothing happens.

How do I know/enable S.M.A.R.T.?

Thanks

as far as i know, s.m.a.r.t. monitoring is enabled/disabled with the bios. if you don't have that option, then you can't enable it. however, there is a free program that you can monitor your hdd's. but, i don't know if it requires that your system has to option to use s.m.a.r.t. monitoring.

Active@ Hard Disk Monitor Freeware. SMART & HDD usage control.

i use it occasionally on both of my desktops.

I emailed HP support and they said that my PC does have SMART and it is enabled by default, but it is integrated into the motherboard so there is no option in the BIOS to enable/disable it.

BTW, thanks for the freeware link. :)
