I miss the old style search companion

Actually its my room mate who really misses it. I know MS thinks the new version of search is better and I'm getting used to it but to help him out I thought I would ask here. Is there a way to get the old style search in Vista or an app thats very like it he can download?

Tired of hearing him cuss over trying to find stuff:D

I miss the XP style search function too. I don't think Vista can be adapted to look like it, but I've tamed the beast somewhat, so, at least, we can do a more complete search than the default allows. Here's how:

Go to the Start Menu, and from inside the Search pane, press F3.
That brings up the Search page - click the Advanced Search button to the far top-right to open the Set Up screen.
In the Set-Up screen check the 'Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files' option.
Under Location, select Computer or Everywhere, and in the Name box, fill in the name of the file you’re looking for, or some text from within the file. (After this first search is completed, if it was unsuccessful, do additional searches for any other key words you think might be associated with that file.)
Run the search, and wait patiently while your hard drive chatters away. It could take 20 seconds or 20 minutes, depending on how much work there is to do, but you'll eventually see extensive search results that actually represent the files on your drive.

It's not the search bar that's the problem...
You need to label things correctly. Then when you want to find it use that same information and Hey Presto...
