When I create word documents in vista, they are always saved as .docx files. When I or others open these documents on PCs they are gibberish. How can you save a word file as a .doc in vista?

Hi Gusto,

Welcome to the Forum,

When you save your documents click on the Office orb, select save as and then other formats this will allow you to select .doc format.

To enable older microsoft office versions to read .docx
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en
Users of Open Office 3.0.1 should not experience any problems with .docx

I hope this helps

Pooch,

Thanks for your help. I guess the key for me when opening an emailed document that used the older version of word was to click on the download option and not the document name. Then you have the opportunity to do as you say and save as in the appropriate older version.

Thanks again,

Hi gusto,
If you want to save documents as .doc regularly, click on the orb and find the 'Word options' button at the bottom. That opens a screen where you will find 'save' as an option on the left side. Choose 'save' and there is a drop down menu with an option to change the default to 'save as Word 97-2003 document. (.doc)

Hope that helps :D

Pepurr,

Very cool. Thanks, this helps a lot. I need to find the time to learn the ins and outs of these apps.
