Have you set your graphics card to adjust the screen resolution?

I'm having a very similar problem right now. The error is the video will be split by a horizontal line and the top part is slightly offset by the bottom part. Usually the picture is very clear (720P) but during an action sequence the lines appear and seem to scroll from top to bottom or wherever the specific action on the screen is taking place. It does this on DVD movies, or any type of video files I play. I have it connected to a plug and play LG plasma where the error is evident, the laptop display does not show the same problem. The video card automatically adjusts to the TV's resolution setting.

I have tried updating video drivers, flashing BIOS, even resetting to the factory settings but nothing has corrected the problem. It hasn't always done this so I know it is capable of sending a clean signal, I'm just not sure how I can get back to that state. Any suggestions?

It might be your graphics card can't handle outputting to 2 different screens (with different resolutions etc) at the same time.

Try disabling your laptop screen while linked to TV for playback, and let me know if that helps.

You were right, I figured out last night what that button that looks like a little tv screen on the remote does last night. For some reason I don't think it was working correctly before I ran the wmc update last night. Everything is perfect now.

You mean the 'tv screen' button on your laptop that switches GFX output or a button on the remote control of your TV that switches input source?

Please be specific so other people with this problem may benefit from it =)

Glad to hear you figured it out by the way!

It's a button on the laptop's remote. I think the laptop itself has this button on it somewhere also, but it's not a button on the TV remote. Basically I chose this laptop to be my HTPC, and I chose HP because they come with a remote that can be stored in the express card slot. As a result, my preference is now to use windows media center because the remote functions well with that program. I have pretty much always used winamp up until this point.
