i cant egt Vista to boot up ?
last night i installed acrobat 9.1 then shut down. went to boot up again and no OS ??? all i get ia a screen with the ASUS logo ??
the laptop is making a dnnn, dnnn, dnnn sound for a wile and it will give me the first few notes of the windows tone, then nothing. after a wile the ASUS screen is replaced with

reboot and select proper Boot device
or insert boot medie in selected boot device and press a key_ (the _ is blinking)

no matter what key i press, it just repeats above message.
the computer is 9 days old. i have been in the bios and reset to factory setting as well as tried user settings. checked to see that the hard drive was on the boot location list ( it is )
i do not have a Vista CD just a ASUS recovery CD ( with Vista on it )

i would love to not lose my info at at all possible, so i am trying to find an option that dose not cause me to recover and lose every thing ??
F8 dose nothing, F2 gets me into BIOS setup.
no other keys seem to do anything on start up ???

cant seem to get into safe boot up or safe mode. after the computer gets to the reboot screen the dnnnnn, dnnn, dnnn stops ?

any help would be great
thanks a billion
James

You can try a sytem restore to before the problem occurred. If this doesnt work for you re-install may be required.

Boot off your recovery disk, and see if it has advanced recovery utilities. You will be looking for System restore. If not, try this (one moment while I pull up the tutorial for creating advanced recovery utility disk.

Follow Instructions provided for creating Recovery Disk. You will then place the recovery disk in drive, restart, at "hit any key to boot from disk" hit a key, and boot into recovery disk. Click System Restore. Follow prompts to restore to a point Before the problems occured. DO NOT USE REGISTRY CLEANERS!, and install a top of the line antivirus/antimalware program, and I recommend using Windows Defender also.(malware may be part of your problem)

Create a Vista recovery Disk to Access Sytem Recovery options
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html

Both of these programs are top of the line:http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/172321-vista-sp1-antivirus-performance.html or:http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/214724-new-nod32-4-smart-security-4-released.html
(I recommend Eset's NOD32 Antivirus/Antispyware version 4.0 with Windows Defender):
Free Eset NOD32 online scanner/cleaner
Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir (download)
Eset NOD32 Antivirus 4 (64-bit) (download)

Did you create the Vista Advanced Recovery Utility Disk? or Follow Instructions above to boot off Disk?

If you are unable to restore or access advanced recovery options, then your only option is Re-install off the Asus Recovery Disk.

It sounds very much like a hardware fault, I would take it back the the place you bought it.

You would create the disk on the computer you are actively using. Do you have another notebook you can switch the hard drive with, and check to see if it functions then?

Ok. This is what you do-
get your receipt/notebook/cables/box (everything that came with it). take it to the store- "Returns" (or call tech support). Tell them it is defective, and does not work. do not tell them anything ese- do not tell them you messsed with the BIOS, or that it was ok till you downloaded programs.
Simply tell them:
It is defective, and does not work. I want to exchange/refund Computer.

unfortunately, your data is not recoverable. Sorry. Even if you left it with them for "repair" (which would take weeks), data on the disk will be lost in any event. In the event you cannot refund/exchange I would buy a new notebook hard drive (sata/ide/ata) and install it.

Ummm you have to follow the instructions-
you need 3 things: (torrent client; Iso image burner; cd/dvd)

1. Torrent Client program (like Bittorent)
2.download torrent through program
3. burn .ISO image to disk with BURNCDCC

sorry so long before a reply. replaced the comp, and upgraded to a better fit for me at the same time.;)
been trying to get every thing set back up and working again. having trouble with outlook but all else is good to go.

the new computer has trend antiviruse pre-installed and cames with a 1 year subscription. should i let the trial version run out before activating the paid 1 year version ??? and is that a decent program or should i look into another one ??

FWIW: i upgraded to an ASUS G50VT series, should fit my game habits great.;)

thanks for the help
