Vista Business 32 bit trying to get it (mail, pda sync, etc) set up....cannot get mail going, and so will not wish to sync my PDA which also uses Outlook on Windows Mobile  These are essential tools for my business which I'll need by Monday morning....
I uninstalled the 60 day trial Office that came onboard, and installed my Office Pro
from CD's then downloaded all updates and service packs still get the following error-

"Cannot start Microsoft Outlok. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook." I've tried the control panel reinstall/repair/change on the Office Pkg of CDs several times, and no luck.
another thread suggested that the Easy transfer may have landed my Outlook contacts in worng location, and to move them to my documents...SO that obviously means into the contacts folder in documents right? ot not? even so...something is not right. Any help would be great....my essential work email is a POP3/SMTP that I MUST get up and running ASAP. :sa: Begging for actual know how assitance please???

provide more info so I can better assist you.

To set up pop3 account:

You need to know the smtp and pop, and enter the email setup in Outlook. It will ask for username/password, etc., f you do not know your Password/smtp or pop3 then you will need to contact your ISP (POP3) provider, or employer.

i.e., pop.east.cox.net and smtp.east.cox.net

Two issues here: I am assuming the Office trial on the computer was 2007, and that you then Installed the Office Professional 2007 version? If not, If you installed Office XP Pro/2003 Pro, and If you created any docs with 2007, you may need to install the compatability pack.

I would try this:
Use system restore to restore your PC to a point before you moved the files, and removed/installed Office Outlook. Then use Vista's File backup Utility to backup the email/other documents.
Do not relocate the contacts data-remove the trial version and re-install Pro 2007 Or simply Insert the disk and install (two versions of office). you can always remove the trial later after. With the docs/contacts in place you should be able to open them in the other Outlook.

You may need to export your Contacts. see this:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/ms-office-tips/export-outlook-contacts/

If you are having two versons of outlook (outlook 2007 and outlook 2003) uninstall the lower version. And repair the newer version.

You will not lose any User data. But backups are always a good idea.

In Hawaii we say "Mahalo nui loa" for Thanks very much :)
I worked on it for a couple of evenings, downloading updates and then
eventually just custom "remove/change/repair/reinstall"
for the Outlook portion only of Office 2003. Each of the other office apps
I ran with compatibility wizard, and they are seemingly up and working OK too.

Tonight I still will only need to export the OUtlook contacts & folders if possible from
either the Easy transfer or manually....I'll check the threads again .

btw;
thanks for help & Support ideas...nothing has worked to date.almost a month
of anguish. Local IT pro says I should pay him $50/hour to wipe new computer clean and install a new XP license...he says vista is a nightmare. All I want is to undo the Easy transfer as I was only using it to gain my conatacts for outlook, the one program that absolutely will NOT work.

Why dont you just re-install, use Windows data backup Utility, and do a fresh install. the process is very easy.

I wouldnt go back to XP. But thats just me.

Are you running Office 2007 Professional, or the old (pre 2003 XP professional office)?

Seems like this problem could have been resolved along time ago, by actually using a more up to date version of Office (at least Offfice 2003, with compatability pack), or just re-installing Vista Business O/S Version, and re-installing the office program of your choice (older office apps may not be compatable with newer file formats unless they were saved in the older office formats, or a compatability pack from Microsoft is installed)

"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version"

This is really not a difficult problem. You have corruption, and the best way to fix it is to re-install. I would think that you would want an up to date version of Office 2007 with outlook. Once you removed the Office trial, and re-installed the pro, you had a problem due to compatability and file/folder displacement, and or paths. Any files you created/saved with the newer version of Office (unless you saved in compatability mode with older versions), or ran a compatability pack, were sure to give issues. Programs like Outlook (depending on how it was uninstalled/installed), then showed damaged executables, or multiple versions (compatable one was removed, and the new one was the wrong version for the apps you were trying to use, or the path (sync) was still pointing to the removed Outlook version.

Make it easy, re-install Vista, and Install your programs again. You have Business version, just pop in the recovery Image backup (I hope you created one- especially if this is a business related pc), and the image re-install takes like 15 Min (or so).

The question is to remove all the mig files first? Is there any other way to Undo/remove the easy transfer process from the vista machine? Clearly ever since that process I am adding a mountain of new problems atop foothills of old problems..and gettgin so far away from the original default set up/user profiles etc..I dont think office will ever run right.
