Adobe problem with Vista

Hello,

I have Adobe Illustrator installed on my computer (Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit) and I am not able to save AI (Adobe Illustrator) files that when it contains text.

If it does not contains text it saves fine.

I think this it might be a problem with permissions for Adobe Illustrator to save the files with fonts ... or not?

Could someone, please, help me out?

I tried everything I could think of including reinstalling Adobe Illustrator twice ...

Thanks,
Miguel

Re: Adobe problem with Vista

I can't imagine how permissions may be involved since you're presumably saving the exact same file type, as the exact same user, in the exact same location.

What is the actual error message when the file fails to save with text?

My guess is that you've got problems with the AI configuration, although they may be subtle and difficult to resolve without intimate AI knowledge - especially if the errors are cryptic or non-existent.

Re: Adobe problem with Vista

Basically, I do the following test:

Create a new Illustrator file.
Draw a square and write some text.
It does NOT save AI but it saves EPS or any other format.
I get an error saying:
"An unknow error has occurred."

If I remove the text from the file it saves without any problem.

I mentioned the permissions because Adobe mentioned that to me ...

I reinstalled the software and the same problem happens.

I really have no idea why this happens.

It has nothing to do with permissions. That's just somebody reading from their script: "tell 'em to check permissions, then tell 'em to reinstall the app, then tell 'em to reinstall everything from scratch."

The app is suffering some sort of internal breakdown in the presence of text. If you apply more pressure at the Adobe support end, they may assign someone a bit more senior to the troubleshooting. Otherwise, if you're left to your own devices...

The error message is about as generic as they come so all you can hope to do is guesstimate the cause. The fact that the format makes a difference to the outcome is significant. Does it happen if:

- Boot the machine to safe mode?
- Log on with a different user account?
- Use a different font you hadn't tried before?
- Save to a completely different drive?
- Completely disable the anti-virus as a test?
