| Vista Home 64-bit | Re: File downloads from Firefox .. searching It just strikes me as odd .... files get moved after they get downloaded, and then they have to be searched for perhaps a day or month later. Vista doesn't do this with all files ... for example JPG's show up in the search no problem. If you copy the file, the copy will then show up in a search ..... but not if its moved. I suppose knowing that happens one can just adjust and always copy files from their download directory ..... emptying the download directory afterward. I was kind of expecting i just had a settings out of place. |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: File downloads from Firefox .. searching KC try this Everything Search Engine I don't like Windows Search constantly indexing and even before then I used to use Linux and like the locate command. So for years I used locate32 search for Windows. But this Everything search is NTFS only. It uses the NTFS journaling to keep track of things. First time you run it the program makes a database of the drive. After that it just uses the NTFS journaling info to track changes. Way better on NTFS than either Windows Search or locate32. Plus it's free. I'm using it on W7 32 bit, Vista 64 bit and XP Pro 32 bit. Leave it run in the tray and use the options to set a Hotkey to pop up the window. Also if you right click a filename result you can do "explore path" to open the folder the file is in. If it's a folder on the left, just double-click to open it. |

Is there anything related to the Vista Search/index I should now disable .... or just ignore it and use "Everything". Thanks! |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: File downloads from Firefox .. searching The easiest thing is type "services" in the Windows search and run the applet. Scroll down to Windows Search in the list. If it's running click on Stop. Then right click on Windows Search, click Properties and set it to Disabled. The search will still work, it just won't index. So stuff that's real Windows specific that might be easiest to find in there, you can still use, like if I search for "services" it still brings up the applet. |
