Export messages from Outlook 2002 to Microsoft Mail

I have reviewed the threads on this forum, but can't find anything that exactly pertains to me. Please help...

I purchased a new Dell XPS with Vista Home Premium x64 which came with Microsoft Mail. My old computer was an XP Home machine running Office 2002, including Outlook. I installed Outlook 2002 on my Vista machine but a known Vista/Outlook 2002 bug keeps having me enter my password everytime I run the program, so I decided to switch e-mail programs to the included Microsoft Mail on my Vista machine.

Here is my question... how can I get all of my archived messages from my XP/Outlook 2002 machine to my Vista/Windows Mail machine? Whenever I follow the directions on my Vista machine, it gives me the error "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. MAPI is not installed on this computer or an error occured while initializing it." This message occurs as soon as I click on the 'Outlook' selection in the messsaging import dialogue box... I can't even get to the point where Microsoft Mail looks for the archive file to import.

In addition to this, I don't even know what type of file to export my Outlook 2002 messages into: Comma Separated Values (DOS), Comma Separated Values (Windows), dBase, Access,Excel, FoxPro, Personal Folder File (.pst), Tab Separated Values (DOS), or Tab Separated Values (Windows).

I looked for solutions on this forum and others, but can't find any that work. Can someone please walk me through this process? I would greatly appreciate it!

Dave

P.S. OR... if someone knows how to fix the bug in Outlook 2002 on a Vista machine that requires me to type in my password everytime I check my mail (doesn't hold the password, even with the box checked), that would work to! :)
